The pecans are finely chopped, coated in sweetness, and added to the oat cluster. The flavor of the flakes is subtle, while the oat cluster tastes very sweet like a pecan pie. Not as good as a pecan pie, unfortunately for Honey Bunches of Oats. This is a Post cereal which is a division of Kraft Foods. The cereal has huge cinnamon-flavored oat clusters in it. I love cinnamon so it’s hard to not want to eat the entire box in one sitting. What I don’t exactly understand is the marketing of three types of flakes: corn, wheat, and sparkle.

In case you’re wondering, sparkle is not a staple food product. In this case it is nothing more than a confusing adjective. I think perhaps it would be a great idea if someone at Post made an executive decision to not make up flake types. But, that’s just my opinion.

The cereal itself is considered a Sensible Solution product, with 9 grams of whole grain and 9 essential vitamins and minerals per serving, as well as a Heart Healthy cereal, with 0 grams of trans fat, 0 grams of saturated fat, and 0 milligrams of cholesterol.

One objection: There are milk and wheat products in the ingredients list but there is no official allergy information listing on the cereal box or on the Kraft Foods site. Perhaps this could be added in the revamp of the box? Yup, thanks.

Slogan: “Crispy flakes… Crunchy oat clusters… A touch of honey… That why one spoonful is all it takes!”
Taste: Lots of tasty cinnamon baked right into those yummy oats!
Box opening: Easy
Bag rippage: No ripping!
Bag slippage: No slipping!
Allergy alert: Contains wheat and milk ingredients

The variety of flakes that they use along with the sugar coating ensures a unique taste that is both sweet and seemingly wholesome. As for the actual “touch of honey”, well that’s hard to differentiate in the taste because of the coating on the flakes. I would think that the honey would be baked in since the coating was more of a whitish color indicating sugar. Had the honey been the coating, it should have blended in with the flakes golden brown color.

Honey Bunches of Oats is made by Post Cereal which is owned by Kraft Foods. Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds is just one of numerous varieties to choose from. This seems to be a big trend with adult cereals. They make the same cereal and just add in different mix-ins to come up with a new brand instead of changing the cereal entirely. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but can lead to numerous different types of the same cereal above the usual 2 or 3 you would normally get with the additions they use for children’s brands (usually marshmallows and chocolate flavoring being the two biggest add ons for a child brand).
