It’s Kölln Zuberfleks Honig! The rough translation on that one is Honey Flavored Magic “Fleks”, which happen to be a flower shaped corn and oat nugget that tastes similar to Cap’n Crunch but with a lot less sugar.

As our friend Creature explains, Kölln Zuberfleks Honig is a cereal based on an educational kids show called “Die Sendung mit der Maus” (“The Show with the Mouse”) which follows the daily life adventures of a mouse and his elephant friend, and has been on television for over 40 years.

There is a mouse mask cut-out on the back of the box which kids cut out to wear on “smart excursions of discovery”.

NYCWD is freaked out by this mouse mask, but Poppy finds it charming.

And now for some nutrition information! Per 30 gram serving there are: 167 calories, 5 grams protein, 29 grams of total carbohydrates, 12 grams sugar, 3 grams fat, 4 mg cholesterol, allllmost 1 gram of fiber, 150 mg sodium, 20% daily phosphorus, and 9% daily magnesium.

The ingredients list is super short, so let’s list them all! Corn flour, oat flour, sugar, wheat starch, glucose syrup, honey, unhydrogenated vegetable fat, iodized salt, soy lecithin, and carotene for color.

Poppy deducted a bowl for the low nutritional value, while NYCWD deducted for the mask on the back, because he can.

Taste: A less sweet Cap’n Crunch
Box opening: No trouble
Sog factor: It sogged out on the edges only, the center remained crunchy!
Too bad I can’t remember who asked me to review this…

Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Toasted Berry Crumble is a new flavor in the Kashi family. It packs cranberries and wild blueberries in with delicious and nutritious whole grains, including oats, sesame, red wheat, rye, brown rice, triticale, barley, and buckwheat.

Also of note, Kashi Toasted Berry Crumble includes 18 whole grain grams per serving, 9 grams or protein per serving, and 8 grams of fiber per serving! These are all wonderful words to our eyes. The rest of the nutrition information, for your viewing pleasure:

Kashi Toasted Berry Crumble maintains a deliciously natural sweet berry taste (with the help of a little cane sugar) while keeping the grains tasting natural instead of sugar-coated. This is like eating a cranberry/blueberry crisp, as the name implies. It could definitely be your morning cereal or your healthy dessert after dinner!

Deductions for a bag opening so tough that I had to use the kitchen scissors, and for not packing added vitamins and minerals (as it never should, but if you hope your cereal acts like a vitamin you will be disappointed).

Taste: Like a fruit cobbler / crisp, but without too much sugar
Box opening: Good
Bag rippage: I had to cut it open to get it open *scowl*
Bag slippage: None
Sog factor: Sogs pretty perfectly and makes the milk taste delicious

Today’s cereal video started with a fan request. And then we visited a Walmart in Virginia on our way home from a wedding and found a Limited Edition cereal to compare it to.

Apple Cinnamon Cheerios are a General Mills whole grain oat cereal. They taste like Cheerios always taste, but with a delicious cinnamon coating. The apple isn’t very noticeable, but the cereal is very tasty. Also, thanks to Kung Fu Panda 2, there was a toy inside the box. If NYCWD had been in the room the cereal would have received 5 bowls for that alone. Apple Cinnamon Cheerios also gets pluses for a good box and bag opening, a perfect sog, and real apple puree in its ingredients. Deductions are for having wheat but not listing it as an allergen and being high in sugars while being low on fiber and protein.

<img src="http://www.cerealwednesday.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Pebbles-Boulders.jpg" alt="" title="Pebbles Boulders" width="264" height="343" align="right" size-full wp-image-2167" /> Post Pebbles Boulders are listed as being Stone Age Caramel Apple flavor. It smells like apple, it kinda tastes like apple, but it definitely tastes like sticky caramel sugar that will rot your teeth before you can even finish grabbing for your toothbrush. Its nutrition information is pretty comparable to Apple Cinnamon Cheerios but boasts whole grain corn flour as well as whole grain oat flour. Kudos to Post for listing wheat so those allergic will quickly be able to see they should stay away from this one. Too bad the taste knocked out any positive. I feel generous in the number of bowls I gave this cereal. Despite its claim to having less sugar than Honey Nut Cheerios, it tastes like a big bowl of sweet yucky. Also, what’s up with the bones? I know it’s a Flintstones based cereal, but I don’t eat bones. Ew. Dude.

Apple Cinnamon Cheerios

Taste: Deliciously cinnamon oat goodness
Box opening: Good
Bag rippage: A little tough to get in the bag but it didn’t rip
Bag slippage: None, and a toy came flying out! Bonus!
Sog factor: Unsoggy
Allergy alert: No listed allergens, but there’s wheat in there

Pebbles Boulders Stone Age Caramel Apple

Taste: Like apple, but with a really strange and sweet tang
Box opening: A little rip.
Bag rippage: Tough
Bag slippage: No slip
Sog factor: Unsoggy
Allergy alert: Wheat is listed as its ownly “Contains” ingredient

Both are granola-based bars with whole peanuts. One happens to be filled with sugar while the other is purely organic. So… which one is going to win?

On taste, the SnackWells wins for me hands down. We’re comparing peanut butter products, and the SnackWells was finger-licking good. Peanut butter nirvana, if you will. Annie’s tasted like just a regular old granola bar with some peanuts thrown in. Didn’t even taste like it had a bunch of organic peanut butter mixed in. (Trust me, I’m from Vermont, I know what organic peanut butter tastes like.)

Nutrition information for the two bars is as follows:

Each contains 8 grams of whole grain per serving, and 5 whopping grams of fat. Peanut butter is a fatty yummy food, so it is what it is… but it’s good fat. But SnackWells has a bunch of fiber and a ton of protein in their bar, while Annie’s has (naturally) less of each. SnackWells adds vitamins and minerals that aren’t naturally found in the product, while Annie’s keeps it natural. Annie’s also keeps the ingredients list natural while there is a lot of processed sugar and preservatives found in the SnackWells list. Kudos to both for having whole peanuts in each bar. Pretty hard to fake a peanut.

Allergens for SnackWells: peanuts, soy, milk
Allergens for Annie’s: milk, peanuts, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

The newest variety packs include a blueberry variety, but my box of bars was lacking the blue in the red, white, and blue motif, so you get Switzerland. (That makes more sense if you know what the flag of Switzerland looks like. I don’t mind waiting if you need to go look that up.)

The vanilla version of the bar was absolutely like wallpaper glue looks like it would taste. The strawberry version was like fireworks in my mouth. Talk about a world of difference…

And since I mentioned how hard it was to read the box, here’s what I was looking at during the video:

That’s the *full* size of the box, and that’s the crazy hard to read ingredients list.

Deductions on Strawberry for allergens and the box being hard to read. Even more deductions for Vanilla for being straight up awful.

Nature Valley® Chewy Granola Bars with a Naturally Flavored Yogurt Coating are a traditional chewy granola bar with a yogurt bottom.

The newest variety packs include a blueberry variety, but my box of bars was lacking the blue in the red, white, and blue motif, so you get Switzerland. (That makes more sense if you know what the flag of Switzerland looks like. I don't mind waiting if you need to go look that up.)

The vanilla version of the bar was absolutely like wallpaper glue looks like it would taste. The strawberry version was like fireworks in my mouth. Talk about a world of difference...

Cinnamon Chex is a gluten-free rice based cereal from General Mills. It contains both traditional Rice Chex and cinnamon coated Rice Chex to balance out the cinnamon flavor. The cereal packs a serious real cinnamon punch without being overly sweet from added sugars.

Nutrition details for Cinnamon Chex are pretty decent:

Not enough fiber for my taste, and it annoys me to no end that this product that’s safe for those who are gluten intolerant isn’t also safe for those who are peanut or lactose intolerant. I won’t comment on my take of why we have so many allergies these days since I have no scientific data to back it up, but it definitely does occur that someone who needs a gluten-free diet also needs a peanut-free or lactose-free diet.

Both NYCWD and I like Rice Chex very much, so it’d be tough for rice-based Cinnamon Chex to not be highly rated. I deducted for lack of fiber and the allergens. NYCWD can stick his “whatever” where the sun don’t shine, because the fact remains that the cereal deserves its deduction.

Every morning I go for my ice coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. Guess what I order? A large French Vanilla Ice Coffee, light with cream and with four Splendas. I LOVE the French Vanilla! So imagine my JOY when Poppy brought home a container of French Vanilla Almond Crunch from Archer Farms!

My first impression is that the packaging is impressive. There’s no bag, and the cover is an airtight plastic cover to help keep the cereal fresh. Very very fancy.

My second impression is that the cereal smells like Play-Doh.

Really.

Play-Doh.

Considering I once spent a week eating cold Chef Boyardee out of the can, I’ve eaten worse. Besides, it’s all for you our loyal fans and cereal connoisseurs!

This is where things got amazing, because the taste is absolutely incredible!!! Maybe it’s my partiality to almonds over other nuts. Maybe it’s my partiality to French Vanilla. Whatever it was… smell aside… the flavor earned it the rating all by itself.

Now I have to be honest, I am NOT a fan of all these organic all natural cereals. Really they’re just filler with very little nutritional value and a high calorie count, as this cereal shows. But really?

240 calories per serving

Holy junkfood Cereal Eater!!! I can get a McRib for that many calories and still get more nutritional value! Insanity.

Want to know what else is insane? Apparently Archer Farms doesn’t have a website. This makes me wonder what corporate monger is behind them and their cereal. Still… the cereal is tastey and slightly addicting… kind of like if crack came in a box.

Buy at your own risk and eat it with abandon.

Taste: Friggin awesome! If vanilla beans were nuts, they would taste like this cereal
Box opening: No rippage
Bag rippage: No bag
Bag slippage: No slippage
It is sold per bar in a large size, no full box of treats is available like other bars. The bar itself is a layer of the original Lucky Charms cereal “glued” together with marshmallow, then the bottom is coated with a confectionary coating that contains yogurt and milk as well as a ton of sugar.

Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats taste just like a bowl of Lucky Charms until you bite into the confectionary coating, then it’s just way too sweet. I found that if I turn the bar upside-down so my tongue touches the cereal side then the confectionary coating never gets a chance to seem too sweet in my mouth and the bar is absolutely delicious.

I couldn’t find any official General Mills information about this bar (thanks for that, sixth largest food company in the WORLD), but I scanned in the Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats wrapper for your nutrition amusement:

Hey, you get sideways because the bar is loooooong. Click either image to see the full size!

I scoured the Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats ingredients list for other common allergens, but it looks like General Mills got the list correct: contains milk and soy ingredients. Also listed is gelatin, without specifying that it is vegetable gelatin, so for those who don’t eat meat please be advised that a big old horse hoof is hanging out in this bar. (Ok, so it’s probably a cow hoof, whatever.)

Deduction for lack of nutrients and a ton of sugar, but Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats rocked my rainbow socks otherwise.
