With the waning time of daylight hours signaling the beginning of the journey to the cold winter months for the northern hemisphere there are those of us who need something… different… in the morning. Quaker Apples and Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal is that something different.

When I was a child, my mother would make me oatmeal every morning from December through February. It was plain, bland, sludgy oatmeal. Because of this torturous experience, I disdained oatmeal for a decade. Luckily for the children of today, Quaker Apples and Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal is not my mother’s oatmeal. It is tasty, sweet, and its consistency may simply be determined by its length of cooking time. The downside is the initial amount of heat generated. A 90 second cooking time will require at least ten seconds of cool blowing for the cereal to be edible without a trip to the burn center.

So even though it loses a bowl for possibility to cause bodily harm and a bowl for dehydrated apple slices, that when hydrated just taste watery, it’s a pretty good quick and easy alternative that can be supplemented with additives of your choice such as raisins or brown sugar.

Out of curiosity, what’s your favorite oatmeal?

What's your favorite flavor of oatmeal?

  1. I put “other” for my flavor but that’s a lie. Truthfully, I don’t like oatmeal at all. When I was little and it was forced upon me, 17 tablespoons of sugar, 1 stick of butter and a splash of milk was the only way I’d eat it.

I’m more of a grits/farina/cream of wheat kind of girl.

I love oatmeal. Maple and brown sugar is my favorite with lots of raisins thrown in. Nice to see Ripley cat napping on the refrigerator.

Maple and brown sugar. I usually cook it a bit longer than it says to so it won’t be soupy, then add a splash of milk to cool it down.

I was eating oatmeal this morning whilst watching. I love love love me some oatmeal. I got to be honest with you…I don’t care for these Quaker Variety pack types. I like the Quaker Old Fashioned. I voted for Maple & Brown sugar because as a child that was my favorites from those packs. My god-mother used to make me the Peaches & Cream with a big dollop of butter mixed in, that was pretty yummy too. Now-a-days it’s a bowl of plain oatmeal each and every morning…I love forward to it each night as I drift off to sleep :)

Are these kind of like a nature film? When the videographer just watches and does nothing to interfere? Because that’s what it felt like when Poppy just laughed at you.

I personally dislike Oatmeal. Always have. Warm cereal has never been for me.

Dude, I was just being the tripod. In the kitchen it’s tough to capture all angles without a human. If I had served any other role I would have pointed at Ripley when she was yawning, pointed out the 30 minutes vs. 30 seconds thing, and moved the litter box. (I was overruled on that.)
