Cereal Wednesday: Corn Chex Cereal

Considering the fact that I love and adore Rice Chex, it is probably surprising that I dislike Corn Chex as much as I do. The truth is that it is a very bland cereal. I enjoy a great number of corn based cereals, but definitely not this one. The only possible light at the end of the tunnel is that since it is corn based, we can only hope that they are getting their corn from American farmers.

While I know it is a healthier option, and that hopefully buying it means your buying American, I will leave it for the true corn lovers out there to indulge themselves further.

What I do find interesting was a recent development. While we had named Post Cereal as the first corporate victim to the anti-cereal marketing movement, The Breakfast Bowl found an article this past week that suggests that Ralston Corp may be looking to buy Post Cereal from Kraft Foods. This news is intriguing because it was Ralston Corp, then known as Ralston Purina, that sold the Chex Brand to General Mills in 1997. In fact, the actual Chex shape is based on the former Ralston Purina logo of a checkered board.

The fact Ralston Purina is who created Corn Chex does not surprise me… considering it does taste a bit like dog food.

I’ve never liked corn cereals, but I love Rice Chex with sliced banana. That is yummy! The only problem with Rice Chex is that I have to eat them fast so they don’t get soggy.

Thanks for the shout-out there bud. I hope that helps clear things up for people.

It’s funny, I just tried Corn Chex yesterday for the first time (my Sister-in-law had them) and I didn’t enjoy them either at all. I love corn and most things corn related (not corn tortillas) but I agree with you, I think they’re bland. I do however like Rice Chex. I should try Bran Chex and the other varities.

Geeky- Believe it or not… I love soggy Rice Chex. Its the only cereal I do like soggy.

OzThomas- I’m not sure if its just poor distribution in my area… or they are REALLY REALLY good. Time will tell…

Metlmom- I prefer my own recipie for the party mix as opposed to the original. I just HAVE to be different.

Poppy- Yes… it does defeat the purpose… but that makes you the victor!!! Die purpose!!! Die!!!

Amanda- The BOLD mix huh? I like mine with chocolate. I’m such a choco-holic.

Bear Silber- Well thanks for providing the understandable explanation minus all the lipid talk. Corn Chex is way too bland for me… and I like most corn based cereals too… just not this one.

Abbagirl74- Really??? I may very well be contacting you when I get the odd requests people tend to throw my way.

Miss Ann- I know… I will eagerly be watching my mailbox from Friday on. You rawk!
