Cereal Wednesday Episode XIII: POPS

Kelloggs Pops is not a bad cereal. It is sweet, but not overly so. It is tasty, but nothing to write home to mom about. It does however have a high resistance to milk sogginess, but tends to expand under milked conditions so filling the bowl to the brim is not recommended.

Pops has actually been around since the 1950’s. It was originally called Sugar Pops, then Sugar Corn Pops, then Corn Pops, and finally in 2006 was just called Pops. Still, although they have had mascots Sugar Pops Pete (a furry racoon like creature with six shooters) and Poppy (a porcupine that carried a suitcase with a full breakfast ready to be served), there is no iconic marketing figure associated with Pops. Their slogan of “Gotta have my pops!” has gained notoriety, and centered around many of their marketing campaigns. A few of those campaigns also used the theme music from the motion picture Jaws written by composer John Williams.

I usually go along with what you say about most of your cereal reviews. but i have to strongly disagree with you about POPS. I am very enamored with POPS and i really like the way that they taste, it just vanishes from my bowl like evaporation, i look down and the bowl is empty. I think that POPS has some addictive ingreedant in it. And i have noticed that the POPS bag is the only aluminum foil style bag that i have run across thus far.

I’ve Only Eaten It Once Before
I Don’t Really Remember What It Tasted Like
      But I Remember Liking It

I like Pops, too. One of my favorites.

King’s should bring back Sugar Pops Pete on the Corn Pops boxes
