Cereal Wednesday Episode I: Apple Jacks
The innaugural edition of Cereal Wednesday:
Apple Jacks is a sweet cereal with a definite cinnamon twang and an apple juiceesque flavor. It remains crunchy enough in the bowl, although it does start to color the milk in a light colored orange and green swirling mess.
Apple Jacks is made by the Kelloggs Cereal Company. Originally, Apple Jacks was comprised entirely of orange pieces. In the mid 1990s the green cereal pieces were added in for a splash of color and relevance with the green box that has been the same color since inception.
Apple Jacks has never had a strong mascot. For over twenty years they used two hand drawn figures of a boy and a girl known as “The Apple Jacks Kids” on the box to illustrate the idea of fun. More recently, they have been using the duo of Bad Apple and CinnaMon in their advertising. Apple Jacks came under some criticism, specifically because CinnaMon is a stereotype of a laid back Jamaican Islander. This has not stopped Apple Jacks from using the characters, nor has it visibly changed their sales projections for the better or the worse.

Apple Jacks is NOT being discontinued. What they did do was discontinue making Apple Jacks in an 11 ounce box size. The cereal is still available in other sizes.
